The featured image is of the abandoned Davenport Pier located northwest of downtown Davenport.
Driving down Highway 1 you'll see a dirt lot where train tracks diagonally cross the road. Parking is available here.
From there, heading down to the beach can be tricky. You may need to hike slightly south along the cliff to find a passable path to the beach.

Sunset
All months are great to visit Davenport Pier. The sun tends to set closer to the abandoned structures late winter to early spring.
Visit the abandoned pier at sunset for vibrant skies and a warm, inviting glow on the water and concrete pylons.
If you want to get close to the pier you’ll want to visit when the tide is low.
Field tips
Hiking down the bluff can be dangerous. Be really careful!
This location is great to let your creativity flow! Experiment with different angles of the concrete pylons and try incorporating a model!
The majority of the time there is a working swing on the concrete pylon (people are constantly maintaining it!). You can use it if it’s low tide.
With a few second exposure you’ll be able to create silky effects in the sky and water.
Explore around the beach! You can also capture beautiful, elevated views from along the cliffs.
