Venice Pride Flag Lifeguard Tower on Venice Beach

avatar
@tommylundberg
For decades, Venice has been a neighborhood of inclusion and diversity and a year after its first Pride celebration, the city unveiled this rainbow lifeguard tower in 2017. It's since become a staple along the shoreline and people flock from all over just to get a glimpse of the brightly-painted structure.

This image of the Venice Pride Flag Lifeguard Tower was taken on Venice Beach. I suggest referencing the GPS in satellite mode for this location, otherwise the map will show the GPS in the water when viewing in 2D. The best way to get here is by car, but you can also take public transportation. If you're driving, park in a nearby public lot (there are many) and then walk west to the beach. By public transportation: - Closest bus station: Main/Brooks (1 or 33 line) - Head west on Brooks Ave For more information, visit the website: https://venicepride.org/about

Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
The Venice Pride Flag Lifeguard Tower on Venice Beach can be photographed during any month. Since Los Angeles doesn't have many seasonal changes, the tower will look the same no matter the time of year.
Cloudy weather can make the colors pop, while a clear blue sky and direct sunlight can wash it out. Check the weather beforehand to make sure it's not too sunny.

Field tips

Please be aware and respectful of the other people on the beach.
Keep in mind to not do anything that would damage the property or harm your model.
Ensure your model is safe on the lifeguard stand and is comfortable with jumping, if that's what you choose to have them do.
I recommend using a wide-angle lens for this image to capture the surrounding beach and sky with no other competing elements in the photo.
I think it's best to have your model wear all black so that they contrast against the muted sky and rainbow lifeguard stand, but get creative with their wardrobe and see what works best for you and your composition.
Be quick in taking your shots with whatever pose your model is doing. If they're in motion, you'll need to take a lot of photos very quickly so you can capture a crip, non-blurry image.
