Golden Hills of Ridge Trail

This image was taken along Ridge Trail in Redwood City. I recommend driving and then parking near the start of the trail (37.324586, -122.204889). After parking, head south on Ridge Trail. Reference the GPS coordinates to reach the exact spot where I was able to take this photo.

The summer and fall months will lend themselves to the golden hills of Ridge Trail, and the winter and spring months will mean greener grass. Take your pick and enjoy both options, but visit in the summer or fall for similar conditions that are shown in the photo.

Golden hour and sunset will be the best times to photograph this location because the composition faces west toward the setting sun, which will allow for the light to hit the grass and layers of hills in the distance.

Watch out for ticks while you're in the area.

Make sure you bring comfortable shoes, as this location does require a short hike on a well maintained dirt path.

I recommend having a mix of focal lengths so you can switch up the perspective. There's opportunity to take compressed shots, as well as wide shots along the Ridge Trail.

Try to use the rounded edged of the hill to frame the landscape in the distance.

Align yourself so you're standing with one of the larger hills in the middle of the photo to evoke a sense of symmetry.

Before sunset, spend the day at Canyon Ranch Woodside. It's only a 12-minute drive up Skyline Blvd and it's an amazing getaway for those looking to enhance their well-being.
