Underneath San Clemente Pier

I took this photograph from underneath the San Clemente Pier. Try to find metered parking on Avenida Victoria or in the parking lot just north of the pier. From there you'll walk across the railroad tracks and find access to underneath the pier. Also, check the tides ahead of time. Low tide is the best so you can have full access to the pier. All months of the year bring great surf to San Clemente Pier.

Visit during sunset when you’re most likely to catch surfers coming out of the water at the end of the day. The sun will also set behind the pier which brings silhouettes and long shadows.

Wear clothes/shoes that can get wet so can you move around the area to find the right perspective.

By using a wide-angle lens (20mm) you can frame the entire pier.

Be patient and wait for that perfect moment to pass through your frame.

There's lots of 🐦 that post up under the pier so make sure you don't stand below one or you may get an unwelcomed surprise!
