Fort Funston view of Funston Beach, Lake Merced & Ocean Beach

The featured image is a view of Fort Funston, Funston Beach, Lake Merced and Ocean Beach. I flew my drone from Fort Funston. Park your car at the Nike Missile Site SF-59 or the main lot. You can walk down either Sunset Trail or Funston Beach. The hikes will take you only about 5-10 minutes.

You’ll be able to capture beautiful views from Fort Funston all year, although, July and August tends to be foggy.

This beach is always amazing but the golden light as the sun sets on the ocean makes the land-sea divide more prominent and brings great color to your image.

Follow local drone regulations and permit requirements if flying a drone.

Try not to disturb others when flying your drone.

Find a safe and non sandy place to launch the drone. As you bring the drone higher evaluate if it can withstand the strong winds.

I chose to frame the hill/bank directly in the middle of my shot so I could evenly spilit the land and ocean. Get creative and find your own perfect composition.

Funston Beach is incredible and it’s definitely worth a stroll. Ocean Beach and Lake Merced are close by and they also offer incredible views.
