This shot was taken on the top deck of Fort Point, which sits right underneath the south end of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Enter at the base of Fort Point, walk through the entrance and find the stairs to your left. Continue all the way to the top deck of the Fort and walk straight until you reach the underside of the bridge.
Tips
When to go
Best season
All months
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
You can capture great images underneath the brige any month of year.
You’ll want to visit between morning and late-afternoon when the light is strong enough to keep the area lit. The area closes at 5pm so you won’t be able to capture sunset.
The weather frequently brings fog and moody lighting — every time I have photograph here I capture a different essence.
Field tips
By using a wide-angle lens (20mm) you’ll be able to frame the width and length of the bridge’s underside.
By staying center you can compose leading lines and symmetry.
The area is also great for portrait photography, so bring along a model and have fun experimenting.
