This beautiful seasonal pond gives great views and reflections of the Cathedral Rocks. It’s named after someone who got their vehicle stuck in the mud here!

This photograph was taken in front of a seasonal pond called Wosky Pond, named for for John B. Wosky, the park's assistant superintendent (1935-1952). His vehicle got stuck in the mud here. The nearest landmark is the Yosemite Valley Lodge at 9006 Yosemite Lodge Dr, Yosemite National Park, CA 95389. From there, head west on Northside Dr towards the exit of the park. After you pass the El Capitan Picnic Area on your right get into the left lane and keep your eyes peeled. After passing the picnic area it will be the very first turnout on your left (right as you come around a curve). Pull over and feast your eyes on the sight!

Tips

When to go

Best season

January, February, March, April, May

Best time

Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
This pond is seasonal and is usually only present after the spring snow melt or following a particularly big rainstorm. You can possibly catch the pond in the summer, but chances aren't good. Come during the wetter months and enjoy!
For similar conditions as the featured image, visit for nice full light during the morning thru late-afternoon, but honestly this pond is photogenic any time of day. Sunrise brings some nice Alpenglow on the Cathedral Rocks and sunsets can also be quite dramatic as this view faces directly west.

Field tips

I used a wide-angle lens (33mm) to maximize my capture of the pond and Cathedral Rocks in the background, as well the reflection.
If you have a model with you, the log that stretches into the middle of the pond is a great place for them to stand.
This is also a great sunset spot as you are facing directly West.
