This image of the staircase was taken inside Residence 55, which are the apartments within The Middle House hotel. When you enter the hotel, make your way to the residence side.
The staircase leads up to Sui Tang Li restaurant, but in order to get this perspective, walk up a floor higher toward the bar so you'll have an overhead view of the spiral structure.

Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
This interior shot in Residence 55 can be captured during any month of the year.
Photographing in the middle of the day will help to illuminate the space and it'll also give a beautiful, natural glow on the spiraling staircase.
Field tips
Try to use a wide-angle lens and a high perspective to capture the dramatic curve of the staircase. For reference, I shot with a 24mm lens.
Make sure to stand with your camera in the center of the staircase so you can create a sense of symmetry and emphasize the spiral shape.
If you want to add a human element to the shot, bring along a friend and they can stand along the stairs.

Do nearby
Since the staircase is right next to the restaurant, I'd recommend getting lunch or dinner at Sui Tang Li. The restaurant was also one of the best I tried in Shanghai, so it's worth it to eat there.
Directly connected to the hotel, there's a shopping complex called Hkri Taikoo Hui. In addition to retail shops, they also have a theater, as well as restaurants.
