When to go
All months are suitable to photograph Shanghai's illuminated skyline from Zhapu Bridge.
I took this photo at night, when the skyline created a beautiful reflection against the river.
During golden hour, you can catch the warm glow as the sun casts its golden rays over the skyscrapers, creating an impressive panorama of the city. It’s also an amazing spot to photograph during blue hour.
Field tips
Be mindful of the passing cars and pedestrian traffic.
Although this shot works with multiple types of lenses, I used a wide-angle lens (31mm) to ensure that I was able to incorporate the key landmarks into the skyline.
If you like a blurred look in the bottom portion of your composition, try timing your shot when there is heavy wind crossing the water. If not, time the shutter when there is no wind so that the water appears more still.
Since this is a night shot, bring a sturdy tripod and try to angle the camera so that you get the best view of the reflection.
