Zhapu Bridge view of Wusong River, Waibaidu Bridge, Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, Jin Mao Tower & Shanghai Tower

This image was taken on Zhaphu Road Bridge (乍浦路桥), which connects the Zhaphu Road Residential Area to the Laoshanxincun (崂山新村) area. I stood facing east to get this view. I recommend taking a taxi across the bridge to get there. The bridge is mostly used by pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists so it's pretty safe to walk along, but be aware of the cars passing by, too.

All months are suitable to photograph Shanghai's illuminated skyline from Zhapu Bridge.

I took this photo at night, when the skyline created a beautiful reflection against the river. During golden hour, you can catch the warm glow as the sun casts its golden rays over the skyscrapers, creating an impressive panorama of the city. It’s also an amazing spot to photograph during blue hour.

Be mindful of the passing cars and pedestrian traffic.

Although this shot works with multiple types of lenses, I used a wide-angle lens (31mm) to ensure that I was able to incorporate the key landmarks into the skyline.

If you like a blurred look in the bottom portion of your composition, try timing your shot when there is heavy wind crossing the water. If not, time the shutter when there is no wind so that the water appears more still.

Since this is a night shot, bring a sturdy tripod and try to angle the camera so that you get the best view of the reflection.

There are many restaurants, hotels and shopping malls in the area. One of the many luxurious hotels nearby, Broadway Mansions Hotel Shanghai, is known for its breathtaking view of both banks of the Huangpu River.
