Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
There isn't any landscape in this shot, so as long as there isn't snow on the ground, you can photograph this location during any month of the year.
The morning is quieter, but midday and late afternoon will produce similar lighting conditions, too.

Field tips

Since the street is so narrow, it'll immediately lead the eye to the college building. Make sure you are shooting with a wide enough lens so that the architecture isn't cut out of the frame.
Angle yourself a bit so you can photograph the varying heights and depths of the wall and building.
For a sense of scale, incorporate a model into the image. I wanted to capture someone who looked more natural, like they were going about their daily life, but you can also have someone pose.

Do nearby

Everything on the campus is within walking distance, so spend the day roaming around and taking in the daily life of the students at Cambridge.
You can also take one of the boat tours on the River Cam through a company called Scudamore's Mill Lane Punting.
For a sweet end to the day, visit Fitzbillies. They've been famous for the cakes since the 1920s.
