The image was taken of the exterior of the restaurant and pub, The Churchill Arms, in Kensington. I stood across the street near the intersection of Kensington Church St and Campden St to get this view.
By London Underground:
- Closest station: Notting Hill Gate Underground Station (via Central, Circle or District lines)
- Head east on Notting Hill Gate/A402 toward Kensington Church St/A4204
- Turn right onto Kensington Church St/A4204 and the restaurant will be on your right
Address:
The Churchill Arms, 119 Kensington Church St, Kensington, London W8 7LN
Tips
When to go
Best season
July, August
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
In the months of July and August, the flowers will be on full display outside of the Churchill Arms restaurant and pub.
You can get similar lighting conditions all day. Ideally, it's best to shoot here between 4-6pm because this is when people get off of work and go to the pub.
Field tips
Try using a wide-angle lens (28mm) to capture the entire restaurant in your frame.
By positioning the pub at an angle you can create the sense of how completely covered the area is. When you capture the corner of the building, you'll be able to emphasize the presence of the flowers.
Head inside to get even more unique photos. The interior is a jungle of plants, flowers and Winston Churchill memorabilia, so it's definitely a must-see for some lifestyle shots.
