This cable car is not only an amusing mode of transportation, it also offers 360-degree views of the entire city. Enjoy the ride as you coast through the city skyline above the River Thames and take in the sights of London from an unexpected point of view.

The image was taken on the Emirates Air Line with a view of the River Thames, The O2 and city skyline. As you cross over the river on the cable car, you'll be able to see this view, with The O2 directly in front of you. You can board the Emirates Air Line from either the North Greenwich or Royal Victoria side of the river. I recommend starting at North Greenwich (via Jubilee Line) and then buying a return ticket so you can go to Royal Victoria and back. Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Sunset
The view of The O2 and city skyline from the Emirates Air Line cable car can be seen during any month of the year. Winter tends to bring the best sunsets.
Visit during sunset to capture the watercolor-like sky as the sun casts a warm glow over the city and river. I like to go on the cable car during the week since the weekend can get a little busy — but because this location isn't in central London, it's never too packed.

Field tips

The cable car will be in constant motion so I recommend only bringing your camera and leaving your tripod at home.
Try using a lens skirt or polarizer to cut down reflection of the glass. If you don't have either, you can use a piece of dark clothing around the lens to shield your glare exposure.
See if you can find a spot in the pod that's not dirty or scratched; otherwise, you'll spend a long time cleaning up your image in post.
Try framing a cable car to put the viewer in context of where you're photographing from.
