London Bridge River Promenade view of River Thames & The Shard

I took this photograph from the riverside promenade at the north end of the London Bridge. There's a stairway leading down to it on the east side of the bridge. You'll get great views of River Thames and The Shard from here. By London Underground: - Closest station: Monument station (Circle & District lines) - Walk south along the left hand side of King William Street. - In 100 metres you will come across London Bridge. Look for the stairway leading to the riverside promenade.

All months of the year you can get great shots from this promenade. If you're shooting sunrise, spring and autumn months are best as the sun rises later in the day (extra hours in bed!). It's also nice and warm making for a comfortable experience.

Only at sunrise will you get beautiful side lighting illuminating The Shard. Sunrise will also backlight the stairs turning them into a silhouette, simplifying your composition.

By using a wide-angle lens (10mm) you'll be able to frame the length of the stairway, the London Bridge and The Shard.

Be patient and wait for someone to cross into your frame. This will give your composition more energy.

Using a long exposure will smooth the water and add a sense of movement to any subject passing through your frame.

Visit the top of The Shard for its viewing gallery called "Shard View". There is an entrance fee but it offers a great view of the city.
