On a sunny winter's day, capture London's most famous ice rink in all of its holiday glory. The crisp air, festive tree and setting sun all make for a perfect foreground of this museum shot.

Tips

When to go

Best season

January, November, December

Best time

Sunset
Make sure to check online before visiting the Natural History Museum Ice Rink. Normally, the rink and Christmas tree will be there from November to January, but the dates change each year.
To get the warm glow of the sun peering through the trees, visit during sunset.

Field tips

You can use a wide-angle lens (24mm) to capture the entire museum, ice rink and framing trees in your photo. The combination of these elements help create a dynamic image.
Try using the leaves as a natural way to frame your photo. You'll be able to see the leaves from where I stood, so use them to your advantage!
For a sense of symmetry, align the Christmas tree in the middle of your shot with the two museum towers (the front and the back) on either side.

Do nearby

Visit the Natural History Museum! There are so many things to see, but one of my favorites is the Blue Whale Model.
For a warm cup of coffee, head to Brown and Rosie (10-12 Exhibition Rd, Kensington). They offer all day breakfast, as well as lunch, too.
