Piccadilly Circus Station on Regent Street

There is a busker playing to the background tune of red buses rumbling by and people chatting. This area is always lively — I love how the giant bright screens light up the junction perfectly, its wide, sweeping road, and that there's all the leading lines you would even need.

Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Night
You can photograph from Regent Street and this underground entrance any month of year. If you're shooting at night, the Spring and Autumn months are best as the sun sets earlier than in Summer (allowing you more time to get the shot). It's also warmer then!
Visit at night to capture the evening hustle and bustle.

Field tips

By using a wide-angle lens (14mm) you'll be able to frame the broad, sweeping leading lines of the buildings and railings.
Be patient and wait for a red bus to pass by — they regularly pass every 5-10 minutes.
Use a moderately slow shutter speed to capture the movement of the buses and people.

Do nearby

Walk up Regent Street for more photogenic opportunities. You can take long exposures from pedestrian "islands" in the centre of the road.
For street photography, the nearby Chinatown and the Soho areas are full of interesting characters who would make great subjects. These are just a few minutes walk East of Piccadilly Circus.
