How to get there

The image of the spiral staircase was taken looking down onto the ground floor of the Blavatnik Building inside the Tate Modern museum. For this view, go through the main entrance of the Blavatnik Building then walk straight (passing the gift shop) and the staircase will be on the right. Head up one flight and then look down onto the ground floor. By London Underground: - Closest station: Southwark Station (via Jubilee line) - Head north on Blackfriars Rd/A201 toward Scoresby St - Turn right onto Scoresby St - Turn left onto Gambia St - Turn right onto Dolben St - Turn left onto Great Suffolk St - Continue onto Sumner St - Turn left toward Holland St - Slight right toward Holland St - Slight left onto Holland St - Take a slight right and then the destination will be on your right Address: Tate Modern, Bankside, SE1 9TG London, United Kingdom

Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
All months of the year are suitable to photograph the spiral staircase of the Blavatnik Building in the Tate Modern.
Visit this place during the day for optimal lighting conditions. If you're looking to photograph when it's less crowded, get there when it opens.

Field tips

Stay on the main floor (above the ground floor) to capture the spiral architecture of the staircase. You can try photographing the staircase from different angles, but I prefer this look down.
Aim to incorporate the leading lines of the staircase to soften the image. The interior curve of the structure should be in the middle of your photo to create symmetry, as well.
If you don't have your own subject, wait for someone to walk down the staircase. This is a busy museum, so it shouldn't take too long for someone to pass through on the stairs.
