Tower Bridge & River Thames from Butler's Wharf

This image of Tower Bridge was taken from Butler's Wharf, which is accessible from the historic warehouse street, Shad Thames, on the southeast corner of the Tower Bridge. If you're not walking across the bridge to get here, the easiest way to access this location is to take public transportation and then walk about 11 minutes. If you're walking to this spot from Tower Bridge, head southeast toward Shad Thames and then you’ll find the small alley that's opposite of Paradiso Café. Follow the walkway to the water from Paradiso Café and you’ll be greeted by a great northwest-facing perspective of the bridge. By London Underground System: - Closest Station: London Bridge (via Jubilee or Northern Line) - Head east on Duke St Hill/A200 toward Tooley St - Continue to follow A200 - Turn left onto Battle Bridge Ln - Turn right onto More London Riverside - Turn left - Turn right toward Shad Thames - Continue onto Shad Thames

You can see Tower Bridge from Butler's Wharf during any month of the year, although it'll be warmer outside in the summer months.

As the sun starts to set, the lights of Tower Bridge and the city behind it will come on, enhancing the illuminated collection of buildings that provide this glowing perspective.

Keep an eye on your camera and make sure to secure it while setting up the tripod on the brick parapet – it’ll be a long drop into the river if your camera falls!

Don't forget to bring along a tripod and neutral density filter, which will help to take long exposure shots and produce a silky effect in the water.

By shooting with a wide-angle lens, you'll be able to capture a vast view of the river in the foreground and the sky with the bridge in the centre of the frame.

I positioned the towers in the middle third of the composition to create a sense of balance, but get creative and try playing around with different angles.

Butler's Wharf has a plethora of great bars and restaurants. Some of the most popular in the area are Anchor Tap, The Raven Tower Bridge and Legare.

You can also walk across Tower Bridge and visit the landmark Tower of London to learn about the medieval castle's ancient history.
