A quick train ride away from London, you'll find yourself lost in a fairytale at the oldest and largest occupied castle — the queen even spends most of her weekends here.

How to get there

This image was taken in a walkway on the property of Windsor Castle, which is 21 miles outside of London. To get here, I recommend taking the train from the city.
This view is the archway near The Moat in the Upper Ward of the castle grounds. If you start the walking tour from the start of the entrance, this spot is towards the end of your walking tour. You can also reference the GPS coordinates and you'll be able to reach the exact spot where I stood for this photo.
By public transportation:
- Windsor and Eton Central (via GWR)
- Head east
- Walk for 272 ft and then take the stairs
- Head southeast toward Thames St/B3022
- Turn right onto High St/Thames St/B3022
- Turn left onto Castle Hill

When to go
Best season
All months
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
Because there isn't any landscape in the photo, you can photograph this walkway at Windsor Castle during any month.
The morning is best to avoid crowds, but you can also visit in the midday and late afternoon.
Field tips
I suggest using a wide-angle lens (27mm) and a fast shutter speed to capture the subject and the massive façade.
Having a model in your shot will not only create a sense of scale, it'll also create a sense of symmetry. Try to have your model stand in the exact center of your image for this.
After a recent rain, puddles will form and you can get low for a reflection shot.

The town of Windsor is lovely to explore, with tons of shops and restaurants. Stop by one of the taverns to grab the classic England dish of fish and chips!
