For those who are fans of mural art, this painting inside an agriculture and horticultural institute is the perfect place to capture a scene drenched in soft light, complemented by muted colors for a vintage effect.

This picture was taken in the Albrecht Daniel Thaer-Institut für Agrar und Gartenbauwissenschaften der HU, which is an institute of Humboldt University. To get to this location, enter the building through the metal door along Invalidenstraße. Proceed straight ahead in the main entrance hall and go up one flight of the stairs where you'll see these wall paintings. I stood on the opposite side of the painting so I could get this perspective. By subway: - Closest station: U Naturkundemuseum (via U6 line) - Head southeast on Chausseestraße toward Invalidenstraße - Turn right onto Invalidenstraße - Slight right to stay on Invalidenstraße - Turn right and the destination will be on your right Address: Albrecht Daniel Thaer Institut für Agrar und Gartenbauwissenschaften, Invalidenstraße 42, 10099 Berlin, Germany

Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
You can visit this staircase in the Albrecht Daniel Thaer Institut für Agrar und Gartenbauwissenschaften year round — except on public holidays.
Go to the staircase during the day, but be aware that soft or harsh light will change your composition. You might lose some of the details of the painting if the sunlight is too harsh.

Field tips

As this building is part of a university, please do not disturb any students and be discreet.
I like the straight-forward shot to get the paintings details, but I think it could also be interesting to shoot against the light — especially if it's a soft light — to get a dramatic effect.
Play with different angles by going up and down the stairs. If you have a model, experiment with poses to create a candid photo of the subject walking up the stairs.
