Altes Rathaus & Cafe Emil

The image was taken in Esslingen at the corner of Heugasse and Rathauspl., looking south onto Cafe Emil and Altes Rathaus. By train: - Closest station: Esslingen Neckar (via S1 train) - Head northeast toward Fleischmannstraße - Turn right onto Fleischmannstraße - Turn left onto Bahnhofstraße - Bahnhofstraße turns slightly right and becomes Abt-Fulrad-Straße - Continue straight onto Marktpl. - Turn right onto Rathauspl - Turn right to stay on Rathauspl.

You can photograph the corner of Altes Rathaus and Cafe Emil during any month. If you want some festive lights in your shot, visit in the winter months when the Christmas decorations are on display.

I visited in the morning to make sure the streets were as empty as possible, but you can also find similar conditions during the midday and late afternoon.

I stood far back from the buildings and shot in portrait orientation on my phone so I could focus on the architecture.

If you'd rather shoot with a camera, use a wide-angle lens to incorporate the buildings without compromising the cobblestone street.

If you have the time, I highly recommend doing a walking tour of the city of Esslingen. They're filled with interesting information and history and you'll also be able to see the best buildings this way.

Visit the nearby town of Stuttgart, which is home to the Mercedes-Benz and Porsche headquarters.
