Although there are similar boathouses along Kochelsee Lake, this location is one of the most unique because of the three houses situated directly next to one another. Capture the trio of wooden chalets as they stand above the peaceful water at the base of the German Alps.

This image was taken on the north shore of Kochelsee Lake, looking south onto the well-known trio of boathouses.
The easiest way to reach this location is by car. Simply drive to the small town of Schlehdorf and right as you reach the main corner in the village, turn off the road onto Seestraße. From here you'll already be able to see the boathouses.
There is a large, free of charge carpark where you can leave your car (47.655204, 11.316535) and then walk to the waterfront.
Tips
When to go
Best season
June, July, August, September
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
Although you can visit the Kochelsee boathouses during anytime of the year, I recommend visiting in the summer months to capture the shrubbery in your photo.
Sunrise is my favorite time of the day here, but I took this particular shot around 10am on an overcast and foggy day. As long as the sun isn't too harsh, you can find similar conditions during any time of the day.
If it's sunny and clear, you'll be able to see a beautiful mountain range in the background.
Field tips
I recommend getting low and placing the long grass in the foreground of your image. It'll add a sense of depth to your photo, as well as help to frame the shot.
Wait for the water to be calm so you can capture a nice reflection. When the water is choppy, you won't have a clear view of the houses reflected onto the lake.
Walk along the waterfront and see what other perspectives you can create. You can even walk onto the dock and get a closer view of the three houses.
