I took the photo in a decommissioned subway train at The New York Transit Museum in Brooklyn. The museum is on the corner of Livingston St and Boerum Pl. The easiest way to get there is by subway.
Once you're inside the museum, walk through the entrance and follow the guided path. At the "City Hall" sign, take a left toward the center of the museum. Go down the stairs and continue walking all the way down the subway cars. The decommissioned train where I took the photo will be on your left (Bus 8506, 1961).
By Subway:
- Closest Station: Borough Hall (4 or 5 Train)
- Head east on Joralemon St
- Turn right on Boerum Pl
- The museum will be on your right
Address:
New York Transit Museum, 99 Schermerhorn Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201

Field tips
Professional photographic equipment is not permitted without written consent prior to visiting the museum. Photographs must be for personal use only.
The windows of the trains are great for a reflection shot, so play around with a model and see what kind of reflections you can create.
There are several vertical rails on the train which can be photographed in different ways for different effects. I framed them at a slight angle and so they split my image.
Explore the museum! The downstairs area has subway cars dating back to the early 1900s. Each train is from a different era, and with different layouts, color schemes and designs, you'll feel like your traveling through time. Take advantage of this and try taking photos that have a more vintage feel.
