The featured image is of the Bow Bridge perfectly blending with the surrounding natural landscape. For this particular shot, I stood to the side of the north end of the bridge. From here you'll have foliage in front of your view of the bridge.
By Subway:
- Closest Station: 72nd Street (A, B & C Trains)
- Enter the park and head southeast on W 72nd Street toward Central Park West
- Stay left as you continue walking on Terrace Drive
- Turn left towards Bow Bridge
Tips
When to go
Best season
October, November
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
Visit during October and November to capture the beautiful autumnal foliage. The changing colors will be a nice contrast with the white bridge.
You can capture great images as long as there's strong light, but since the bridge is one of the main attractions for tourists, I recommend visiting an hour after sunrise. The lighting in the early morning is great for this environment.
The bridge is not an ideal spot for sunrise or sunset as the lighting is often blocked by the trees and surrounding buildings along the park.
Field tips
By using a wide-angle lens (24mm) you will be able to incorporate the fall foliage that's immediately surrounding you and the length of the bridge.
Use the bridge as a leading line in your composition and to fill open space amongst your foliage frame.
If the bridge is busy with people, remain patient until it's clear to capture your moment.
