This intersection is lined with authentic restaurants and shops in the heart of Chinatown. Even in black and white, the vibrancy of the neighborhood can be felt through a photo.

This photo was taken at the intersection of Pell Street and Doyer Street in Chinatown. I stood on Doyer St facing south. If you're on foot, the best way to remember where this location is is that it's right off Bowery Street and Pell Street. Once you're on Pell Street, walk to the middle of the street and Doyer Street will be right in front of you in all its glory. By Subway: - Closest Station: Grand Street Station (B or D Train) - Turn right on Grand St - Turn left on Bowery St - Turn right on Pell St, continue walking until you get to the corner of Pell St and Doyers St

Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
You can photograph from the intersection of Doyers Street and Pell Street during any month of year, as long as the weather is mild. Winter can be fun if it's snowing, but spring, summer, fall are best because there's so much to do and see when it's warmer outside.
If you want to take a black and white photo, like I did, then make sure to visit in the daytime. At night, it'll be too dark.

Field tips

Keep an eye out for traffic! You're photographing in the middle of the street, so be aware.
Having a wide-angle lens will allow you to frame a full view of the street. The scene isn't as big as it seems, so make sure your lens isn't too narrow.
I liked having a model in the shot so that it added a human element to the composition. Bring a friend and experiment with their positioning to see what you like best.
In addition to looking out for traffic, I also recommend waiting until the street isn't crowded so your model can be the focus of the shot.

Do nearby

Hit up Nom Wah Tea Parlor (13 Doyers St). The tea parlor and dim sum restaurant first opened in 1920 and since then, it's been a neighborhood staple.
