Tree-lined Path at Old Westbury Gardens

The image was taken along a tree-lined path at the Old Westbury Gardens in Old Westbury, NY. It's less than an hour drive away from Manhattan via I-495 E. Upon entering the garden, walk through the mansion and head south toward the back of the house. Once you're on the lawn, continue going south and you'll see this view. Each season at this elegant location will give you a different perspective. To get the same lush greenery, like I had in my photo, I recommend going during the spring or summer. In the winter, the trees will be bare, but there are vibrant, amazing colors in the fall. The gardens are open on special occasions in the winter, so check the website below if you'd like to visit then. Late afternoon (from about 3-5pm) is the best time because the lighting is less harsh. As it gets closer to sunset, the lighting will create a warm glow.

Try creating a sense of symmetry by centering yourself with the path. From this view, the trees will form a canopy above you.

I used an 85mm lens to take portraits, but I also like this lens to shoot landscape to give the photo an interesting sense of depth and detail.

This is also a great space to photograph a model. Explore around and get creative!

The grounds at the Old Westbury Gardens are some of the most beautiful in New York. Check out the antique-filled mansion, blooming gardens and manicured lawn over 200 acres of woodland. They also have a cafe if you'd like to grab a bite to eat!
