As if cut in half with a knife, this unique contrasting scene is nestled in an ordinary passerby environment, yet bears resemblance to the set of a Hollywood sci-fi film.

This location is an underpass connecting the Fullerton Hotel Singapore to One Fullerton. The easiest way to access the underpass is via the backside entrance of One Fullerton (strip of restaurants and cafes), which is along the Marina Bay.
Using Merlion Park as a starting point, walk towards One Fullerton. Just past the Starbucks and before Jing Seafood you will see a small set of stairs leading up to a taxi stand. Walk up the stairs and go left thru the sliding doors and take the escalator down towards the underpass’ moving walkway. I walked to the end of the underpass and turned around to take this photograph.
By MRT:
- Closest MRT Station: Raffles Place (East West Line and North South Line)
- Take exit “A”
- Head west towards Raffles Pl
- Turn right onto Raffles Pl
- Turn right onto Battery Rd
- Turn left onto Fullerton Square
- Cross Esplanade Rd and go to backside of One Fullerton along Marina Bay
Address:
One Fullerton, 1 Fullerton Rd, Singapore 049213
Tips
When to go
Best season
All months
Best time
Morning, Night
Any month of the year you can photograph this interior shot of the underpass. That said, it is typically decorated during holiday seasons (Nov/Dec and Jan/Feb for Christmas and the Lunar New Year, respectively). There were no decorations when I took this photograph.
It’s easiest to photograph without human subjects if you visit early morning before working hours or night after working hours (the moving walkway stops around midnight), but you can shoot it any time of day as long as you’re patient!
Field tips
Use a wide-angle lens (16mm) to maximize your capture of the depth and details of the underpass.
By standing on the metal divider between the carpet and moving walkway you’ll create a very nice split frame and symmetrical effect. Try to align the objects in the frame at an eye level. I took over 30 photographs of trial and error to get a composition I was happy with!
Be patient and wait until there’s nobody on the moving walkway to take your shot. I think the presence of a human subject strips the magic out of this architectural gem.
Don’t loiter longer than 30 minutes in the area or security may ask you to leave.
