When to go
The library can be photographed all months of the year, but if you’re hoping for it be less busy, visit during the December holiday season when school is on break!
Visit in the morning on a weekday when the library opens (11:00) and before lunch. It’s least likely to be busy then and you’ll have more freedom to compose your shot.
Field tips
Notice the sliding ladder (it’s blending into the bookshelf)? Get creative in how you incorporate it into your composition. Having someone stand on it creates a nice effect.
It’s tough to catch this library without people, so be patient in getting your shot. That said, sometimes the crowd makes it more human. It’s up to you!
I like to split my images so I positioned where the library walls meet to split my shot in half. I also composed the bookshelves and library walls to have equal weight in the photograph.
To bring out the minimalism of this photograph I increased the exposure during post-process editing.
