Marymere Falls

avatar
@michaelmatti
A short hike through a beautiful, old growth forest leads to this powerful, 90-foot waterfall near the banks of Lake Crescent. Stand there for a moment and be captivated by the rushing water, surrounded by a massive granite wall covered in verdant green moss.

This photo looking down on Marymere Falls was taken from the top of the stairs at the end of the Marymere Falls Trail. Marymere Falls is a popular hike on the Olympic Peninsula and can be reached from two different trailheads: Storm King Ranger Station or Lake Crescent Lodge. To get to this specific spot, I suggest starting near the Lake Crescent Lodge side of the Marymere Falls trails (48.057624, -123.790685) — I think the forest is more interesting on that section of the trail. The Lake Crescent Lodge trailhead is slightly further at 1 mile to the falls versus .85 miles from the Storm King Ranger Station trailhead. Park at either of the parking lots at Lake Crescent Lodge (48.056936, -123.799314 or 48.056731, -123.800208) and look for the big open field (you should have seen it on the drive in). As you face the field, walk along the path on the left side, cross the road and then continue down the path into the forest. Follow the signs for Marymere Falls. Once at the falls, stand at the top of the stairs and look back down towards the waterfall.
