Mary Avenue Bridge

This photo of the Mary Avenue Bridge was taken on the south side of the structure, which is near the corner of Meteor Dr and Mary Avenue. The best way to get to this location is to drive. Start by parking your car at the Homestead High School parking lot (37.336280, -122.050322). Once you're there, follow the winding, paved path until you reach the bridge. Cross the bridge and then reference the GPS coordinates to see the exact spot where I stood to get this north-facing perspective of Mary Avenue Bridge.

Since there aren't many seasonal changes in this area of California, you'll be able to photograph Mary Avenue Bridge year round.

During the late afternoon, the sun will cast a set of shadows, which create a more dramatic look.

Be sure to watch out for pedestrians while you're on the bridge. It's also a place that's popular amongst bikers, so make sure to look out for them, too.

I think it's best to photograph with a wide-angle lens so you can exaggerate the vastness of the bridge, as well as create a sense of scale with the subject in view.

Try to hold your camera at a higher angle to replicate the composition that I achieved in my photo.

Further emphasize the symmetry of the bridge's architecture by placing your model in the center of the frame.
