Grand Lower Look Up

This location is on Grand Lower, which is below Grand Street. It’s sorta like a basement level street. It can be a little tricky to find, but if you park near The Broad or Disney Concert Hall walk to S Hope St, make a left and walk until you hit Kosciuszko St. Go down that street and you’ll arrive here. Alternatively, you might even be able to park on Grand Lower, but it can be full at times and you also might not want your car in the shot.

All months are suitable to photograph at Grand Lower.

It's best to go mid-day when the sun is high because that is when the most light can hit into this area. If you visit at sunrise or sunset the light won’t illuminate the space well. Also, try visiting on the weekends, when the road has less traffic.

Be wary at this underground, dark location. Cars will be continuously passing through when you are trying to photograph.

I suggest bringing a wide-angle lens (35mm) and get low to exaggerate the characteristics of the roof.

Play with the hard light to create strong lines of contrast within your photo / on your subject.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Broad Museum and Grand Central Market are all close to this location. If you haven't eaten at Grand Central it is definitely worth a visit for some good food and coffee.
