Lake Barryessa Glory Hole Look Down

This look down view is of the Morning Glory Spillway, also known as the Glory Hole, located at Lake Berryessa in northern California. You can drive along highway 128 and park near the viewing area. I used my drone for this shot and launched it from the parking lot at the corner of Lake Berryessa Exd and Highway 128. It's not much of a hike, so you can also walk along the lake and find your preferred angle.

You can visit the Glory Hole during any time of the year.

Getting nice, even lighting is key for shots like this. Try visiting during morning or evening light, or even during mid-day if it’s cloudy. If you're shooting with a drone, follow local drone regulations and permit requirements, and be aware of your surroundings. The Glory Hole has become a popular tourist attraction, so make sure your drone isn't inconveniencing other people.

Try composing different creative angles by flying high and low. A different perspective can really change the whole shot!

As you experiment with different heights, try incorporating more of the trees, mountains and road into your frame. The color contrast of the land against the blue water will really pop.

Explore the area! There are trails, natural reserves and gorgeous views of Lake Berryessa. You can also sail a boat, jet ski or have a BBQ. This area is a nature lover's dream!
