Valley Performing Arts Center Stairway

I took this photograph within The Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC) on the west side of the building. It’s on the California State University Northridge campus. Parking lots are accessible from Nordhoff Street and Lindley Avenue. From here you'll park in structure G3, and you'll enjoy a 10 - 15 minute walk to VPAC. This location is inside a building in sunny Southern California, so it can be photographed any month of the year.

The light pours into this space in the late-afternoon, as the large glass windows are western facing. Sunset will provide you with that beautiful orange magic-hour light and long shadows.

There are many beautiful light-filled locations within the foyer, but especially along the stairwell pictured — bring a friend to capture some stunning natural light portraiture!

Since VPAC is on a college campus in a college town your options are fairly limited. The Getty Museum is only a 30 minute drive south of Northridge.
