Andy Goldsworthy's Wood Line

The featured image is of Andy Goldsworthy's Wood Line in the heart of San Francisco’s Presidio. If you’re driving, park just past the intersection of Presidio Blvd on W Pacific Ave. From there, walk down Lovers Lane until you’re near the GPS coordinates, then go off to the right — you should be able to see the woodline (about a two minute walk).

Visit any month of the year! Eucalyptus trees are deciduous trees so they won't change color throughout the year. The summer tends to be foggy especially in August, so watch out for that.

The wood line is always incredible, but roughly 30 minutes to an hour before sunset you can experience incredible light rays breaking through the trees (assuming it’s a clear day without fog).

If you’re using a tripod, I recommend setting it up a few feet off the ground with the wood line centered.

If you’re photographing a model, pay attention to how the light is falling on them. Have them move around to find the right light.

Get creative if there are flares of light piercing through the trees.

Try to keep a low ISO to avoid a grainy shot. This is a challenging area to properly expose.
