Grizzly Peak view of San Francisco Skyline & Bay Bridges

This image of the San Francisco Skyline and Bay Bridges was taken from Grizzly Peak. To get there, you'll need access to a car. First, drive up Grizzly Peak Blvd behind the UC Berkeley campus into the hills. The road is winding, but well-paved and very manageable. Park in the large dirt turnout at the GPS coordinates and then face southwest toward the city and bridges. I prefer to set up my camera around the tree to be less visible from the road.

The summer months can often mean the city is covered in a thick fog, but technically you can capture a similar photo of San Francisco and the Bay Bridges during any month of the year. Check the weather beforehand and make sure there will be foggy conditions during sunset for a similar look at Grizzly Peak.

This spot is best photographed at sunset when the sun will dip behind the city — occasionally offering a nice diagonal light that filters through the buildings. I also recommend staying for blue hour to capture the city lights.

For extra safety precautions, bring a friend with you. Also, don't leave anything in your vehicle when parked.

The fog can add a great element to your image — as long as it's at or below 1,000ft — so wait for a day that has heavy fog.

I think it looks best to use a telephoto lens and zoom into the scene as much as possible, allowing the bridges to compress against the skyline.

Make sure to bring a sturdy tripod that will provide a strong base for your telephoto lens.
