Commonly visited for its landscape, this location also provides a unique opportunity for portraiture. As the sun sets behind your model and the wind blows their hair away, they will be in a natural spotlight.

The featured photo was taken from Twin Peaks parking lot. Twin Peaks is known for its high vantage point that overlooks downtown San Francisco if you look directly east from the main lot. However, if you were to walk towards the north end of the parking lot, you'll find a nice little vantage point of the Sutro Tower (pictured in photo).

Field tips

By using a wide-ange lens (24mm) you'll be able to incorporate the length of the railing and the Sutro Tower in the background. It’s also the best lens to capture the surrounding downtown landscape!
When composing your shot, be mindful of the setting sun in the background and it's influence on the railing's shadows.
In the featured image I wanted to focus on my model's shoes. This is a nice spot for product photography.
