Best time

Sunset, Blue Hour
The view from the rooftop doesn't change much throughout the year, so visit any month!
Sunset into blue hour are perfect times to photograph the illuminated cityscape, which makes a nice contrast against the vibrant blue skies.

Field tips

Be careful when photographing from a rooftop.
A wide-angle lens (14mm) will allow you to frame the expansiveness of the cityscape, as well as the key buildings: Shanghai Tower, Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center.
Try framing both the Wusong River and Huangpu Rivers. You can also remain patient and see if a boat crosses along either river.
There are so many different perspectives to capture. Experiment with different lenses and focal lengths.
