In the middle of this popular Shanghai mall, a towering structure emerges from the ground and expands into a massive glass ceiling above shoppers.

I took this photo on the second to last floor of the Capitaland LuOne shopping mall (below the top floor). It's near the intersection of Xujiahui Road and Madang Road in downtown Shanghai. This structure is at the center of the mall and once you take the elevator up to the second to last floor, it will be directly in front of you.
By Metro:
- Closest Station: Madang Road Station (Lines 9 or 13)
- Head north on Madang Road and the destination will be on your left
Address:
Capitaland LuOne No. 265, Xujiahui Road, China, Shanghai
Tips
When to go
Best season
All months
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
Photograph this architectural feat any month of year.
I recommend coming here in the late-afternoon (4 or 5pm) or on a cloudy day. The afternoon light will shine through the ceiling, without being too harsh, and the lights from the stores will be turned on.
Field tips
Be mindful of the other shoppers and security guards. This location has a strict policy on anyone that's trying to shoot for business purposes. If the guards see you with camera equipment, they will make you delete your photos. Use your mobile phone.
By aligning yourself with the sculpture you can create a sense of symmetry within the photo.
Try shooting from different floors of the mall. I was on the second to top floor, but you could also experiment and try photographing from the first floor.
