This image of the Shanghai skyline was taken at the pool inside the Regent Shanghai Pudong Hotel. To get this view, you have to be a guest of the hotel. The GPS coordinates will guide you to the front of the hotel and then you'll take the elevator up to the top spa floor. As soon as you enter the pool room, you'll see this northwest view of the skyline directly in front of you. Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Sunset
You can capture a similar perspective of the Shanghai skyline from the pool at the Regent Shanghai Pudong Hotel during any month of the year. Since you're high above any landscape, the seasons won't affect this view.
At sunset, the room will glow with a diffused light as the sun begins to dip into the night sky. The pastel colors in the sky will complement the reflective surface of the blue water, too.

Field tips

Be careful with your equipment around the water — the ground can be very slippery!
For a sense of scale, and an unexpected focal point, I wanted to add a model into my shot. I recommend doing this so you can have a human element that'll enhance the architecture and show off how big the pool really is.
Try to get low to the water's edge so you're at eye level with the pool. This will give the illusion that the entire room is covered in water and it'll also make it seem like your model is walking on water.
As you frame the Shanghai skyline in your background, try to prominenty frame the Oriental Pearl TV Tower to bring out the epicness of the cityscape.

Do nearby

Since you'll have to be a hotel guest to get this image, I recommend taking full advantage of the amenities. In addition to the pool, they also have three on-site restaurants, as well as a spa and fitness center.
