This image was taken from the middle Waibaidu Bridge (known as Garden Bridge of Shanghai). I stood on the pedestrian path and faced east towards Shanghai's most iconic skyscrapers.
By Metro:
- Closest Station: Tiantong Rd (Line 10 or 12)
- Take exit 3 then turn right onto Tiantong Rd
- Turn right onto Daming Rd and continue until you're on the bridge

Best time
Sunrise
You can photograph from the bridge any month of year.
Sunrise is a perfect time to do cityscape and lifestyle photography. You can catch the sun rising above the skyline and local Shanghainese exercising along the bridge.
Field tips
Be careful as traffic moves quite fast on the bridge.
By using a wide-angle lens (20mm) you can frame both the length of the bridge and skyline in the background.
I balanced my image by conveniently capturing two cyclists crossing my frame — both in the middle of the triangular sections of the bridge.
Notice how the sun is bursting through the skyline in my image. Pay attention as the sun rises above the skyline to capture your right moment. The sunburst can be emphasized by shooting with a smaller aperture (f/8-9)
