The image was taken along Abingdon Street in front of Victoria Tower, the House of Lords and Statue of Richard I of England.
I stood on the west side of Abingdon Street to get this view of the tower and parliament building.
By London Underground:
- Closest station: Westminster Station (via District, Circle or Jubilee lines)
- Head south on Parliament St/A3212 toward Bridge St/A302
Tips
When to go
Best season
March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
To see the trees in bloom I recommend the spring, summer and autumn months at Victoria Tower and the House of Lords. In the winter, the trees in the background will be barren.
Even though I took the photo midday, try to get there early in the morning (after sunrise) so the streets are still relatively empty of pedestrians.
Field tips
Make sure you shoot with a wider lens (38mm) to fit all of Victoria Tower into the frame.
I recommend using a Neutral Density filter and a tripod to capture the movement of the traditional black cabs, red buses and light trails.
Be patient and wait for a black cab to enter into your frame. Having the cab in your shot will add to the character of a traditional London scene.

Do nearby
Head across the street and check out Victoria Tower Gardens. From there, you'll be able to capture photos of Parliament, as well as the London Eye on the other side of the River Thames.
