Barbican Underground Car Park

This photo was taken in a private underground carpark in the Barbican Estate. You can get down there via the ramp that is on Fann St. Reference the GPS coordinate in satellite mode for context. By London Underground: - Closest station: Barbican station (via Circle, Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City lines) - Exit and head north along Goswell Road. - Take the first right junction down Fann Street

This carpark is underground so the environment isn't influenced by the season.

To capture the skylights at their brightest, midday is the best time to visit. That said, you should be able to expose the area any time of day. Visit on a cloudy day for soft, dreamy lighting.

I recommend using a 35mm wide-angle portrait lens to closely frame your model and surrounding architecture.

The skylights are open to the air so when it rains you can capture a pretty cool rainy effect.

Have your model experiment with different poses under the skylight.

The Barbican Estate is full of concrete compositions, but for something a little more iconic, I recommend walking ten minutes south along Goswell Road. This will take you right up to St Paul's Cathedral, undoubtably one of the most iconic buildings in London.
