Battersea Power Station & River Thames

This image of Battersea Power Station was taken from Grosvenor Road along the waterfront across the River Thames. Reference the GPS coordinates to see where I stood and then face south for this view. You can either drive or take public transportation to get to this location. By London Underground: -Closest Station: Pimlico Station (via Victoria Line) - Head west on Bessborough St/A3213 toward Rampayne St and continue to follow A3213 - Continue onto Lupus St - Turn left onto Claverton St - Turn right onto Grosvenor Rd/A3212

You can create a similar image of the Battersea Power Station and River Thames during any month of the the year. In my opinion, the spring and autumn months provide the best balance between warm temperatures and early nights.

To capture the red lights illuminated, you'll have to visit after dark. Daytime photographs of this famous power station still make for interesting images, but the ambience created by the contrast of the lights against the blackened sky will bring more power to your shot.

I used a wide-angle lens (35mm) so I could capture the full reflection of all the lights in the water.

If you want to emulate the smooth water, which will provide the best reflections, check the weather forecast and visit when wind speeds are less than 3m/s.

A long exposure will let you smooth out the reflections, so using a tripod is essential at this location.

Albert Bridge, which is to the west of this location, is one of the most beautiful bridges in London. It's covered in lights, so visiting at night will make for some awesome photographs.

For a daytime location, I recommend walking into Battersea Park. It's a nice place to relax and shoot photos of the park's attractions, such as the Peace Pagoda.
