Wachsenburg Castle & Holzhausen Village

Before heading up to the castle, you can find free parking at the Rastplatz Burgenblick rest stop (50.856864, 10.874507). Walk up to the castle grounds where you'll find the open area along Veste Wachsenburg. You can launch your drone here, but please be aware of the visitors and respect their space. Visit the Wachsenburg Castle during the spring, summer and early fall to capture the trees before they're bare for the winter.

At sunrise, the castle looks incredible as it glows under the rising light. When there are low clouds, the castle will most likely to be above them since it's located on a hill. If you're lucky, you might experience a cloud inversion, so try visiting in the morning as well.

Fly around and get creative. There are endless perspectives in the valley's open space.

Try photographing with a telephoto lens so you can capture the detail of the architecture. Shooting in landscape orientation will allow you to frame more of the area.

Go inside the castle and learn about the hundreds of years of history. You can also dine at the restaurant that's set in a medieval-style dining room in the hotel.

Check out the nearby First German Bratwurst Museum, which is right around the corner from the castle. Whether you're in the area to take photos or see the castle, who wouldn't want to hear about the history of the German sausage, too!
