One of the most pristine Alpine lakes in the Allgäu region of Germany provides an unspoiled view of the Nebelhorn Mountain, complemented by a soft hue of magenta flowers.

This image of Schrecksee Lake and Nebelhorn Mountain was taken close to the grassy ridge at the eastern end of Schrecksee lake. I used some alpine flowers to frame the lake and add a splash of color to the shot.
To get to this location, you'll need access to a car and be aware that the hike will take about 5 hours round trip and it has many vertical climbs, too.
Leave your car in the Parkplatz Auf der Höh (47.474547, 10.416628). Be sure to get there early during peak summer months because the car park will fill up fast!
Follow the path (and then tarmac road) up the valley until you reach a building that appears to be a water power station, then take the trail that leads up to your left. The climb through the trees is steep, but flattens out over the meadows. Continue the climb until you reach Schrecksee.
Once you reach the lake, turn left and climb up towards the grassy ridge to get a good vantage point back down toward the water and its picturesque island.
Tips
When to go
Best season
June, July, August, September
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
The summer months will be best to capture the green mountains and magenta flowers at Shrecksee Lake. During the summer, you'll also have enough sunlight to hike up and down the trail without it getting too dark.
Avoid coming here in the winter because the hike will be inaccessible.
Visit this place during the day for the best natural light. I took this photo in the late afternoon, but a sunset shot would also be really beautiful — just be aware that you'll be walking down in the dark.
Field tips
I recommend bringing a lot of water for this hike. It's about 2.5 hours each way along the trail, with around 1000m of vertical steepness.
You can get a better view if you go higher, just hike up to one of the peaks to find different perspectives.
Try using different focal lengths. A super-wide lens can be great for this shot and a longer lens will exaggerate the size of the mountains.

Do nearby
Go swimming in Schrecksee Lake if you have your swimming attire and if the water isn't too cold.
I also recommend checking out the nearby town of Oberstdorf for camping. The town has areas for tents, caravans and scenic views for more photo opportunities.
