Built from 1996 to 1998, this Axel Schultes-designed building is an impressive example of contemporary architecture. The stark-white color scheme features an expansive hallway, a converted room with concrete columns and a great basin in its centre.

Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Mid-day
The interior columns of Krematorium Baumschulenweg Berlin can be photographed during any month of the year. The building is open every day of the year, excluding public holidays.
In my opinion, I think the best time to visit the building would be during midday when the sun will shine directly overhead. The midday light will also create an interesting atmosphere where you can play with the shadows and use the light to your advantage.

Field tips

Please respect the place and its rules. Before taking a photo, you'll need to inform the building personnel that you're going to be taking pictures. Additionally, tripods are not allowed inside the krematorium, so only bring your camera.
I recommend using a wide-angle lens (11mm) to capture this unique building and its large columns. With a wide-angle lens, you'll be able to incorporate the white walls, which will help you to frame your photo and create a balanced image.
I used a model in my photo. I think it's best to add a human element to your shot to evoke a sense of scale. It's also important to have then wear something dark to create a nice contrast from the building's white interior.
Experiment with photographing the columns and your model from different angles.
