This image of the old staircase was taken on the ground floor of the German Historic Museum (Deutsches Historisches Museum), which is in Berlin.
To get to the location, make sure to walk into the main entrance of the museum (off of Hinter dem Gießhaus) and then head straight through toward the courtyard. You'll be able to get to this location of the museum without the need of getting a ticket for the museum, but just make sure to arrive during opening times (10AM-6PM daily).
While in the courtyard, walk straight and to the right. Then, head toward the little wooden door where you'll see an old staircase. Reference the GPS coordinates and you'll be able to find the spot where I took this photo.
By public transportation:
- Closest station: (via 12 or M1 Tram or M1 Bus)
- Head east on Dorotheenstraße toward Am Kupfergraben
- Turn right onto Am Kupfergraben
- Continue onto Am Zeughaus
- Turn right onto Unter den Linden

This interior perspective of the old staircase in the German Historic Museum can be photographed during any month of the year.
During the day, you'll be able to find similar lighting conditions. I made sure to go on an overcast day so I didn't have any harsh shadows that could distract from the staircase.
Field tips
This shot was taken from the ground floor. For the same perspective, make sure to look up and make good use of the leading lines from the staircase.
Symmetry is key here! Position yourself so you're standing in the center of the staircase.
To get an even more interesting photo, you could place a model at the top of the staircase. It'll create an unexpected focal point that will make for a unique image.

Do nearby
I highly recommend going inside and exploring the museum. For out-of-town visitors, and even locals, the exhibits offer great insight into German history.
Another one of my locations in the app, Round Staircase in Deutsches Historisches Museum Pei-Bau, is nearby.
You can also walk around the historic center in Berlin along the Unter den Linden boulevard towards Brandenburg Gate.
