Lake Eibsee, Sasseninsel & Steinbühl Islands & Zugspitze

The image was taken along the north shore of Lake Eibsee, with a view of the Sasseninsel and Steinbühl islands and Zugspitze mountain in the background. Reference the following GPS coordinates to guide you along the path. It will take you about 20 minutes to complete the trail hike from the parking lot. Start by parking at the lot of the Eibsee-Hotel (47.457736, 10.991698) then head south on Am Eibsee toward Eibseestraße. Once you reach Eibseestraße, take a left. Follow the path toward Eibsee Runwig (go over the bridge) and then continue along to the final spot where I stood (47.460480, 10.980135) to get this view of the lake, island and mountain.

I shot this photo of Lake Eibsee, Sasseninsel and Steinbühl Islands and Zugspitze in April. To find similar conditions, like the snow still on the mountains, I recommend visiting in the spring and early summer.

Nine out of ten times, the lake will be perfectly calm at sunrise. In April, the sun comes from the far left and beautifully illuminates the mountain at around 9am.

I think using a wide-angle lens is best here. The wider your lens is, the more you'll be able to capture the mountain and the reflection in the lake.

To create symmetry, try positioning yourself so the island is in the middle of your shot.

You can also try incorporating a model in this picture to add a sense of scale and highlight the size of the lake and mountain.

You can capture some amazing drone shots here, but just be aware of your belongings while you're near the water. Before droning, always make sure to check drone regulations and permit requirements.

Near the parking lot, there's a cable car that can take you up to the Zugspitze mountain, which is the mountain in the background.

There are also two gorges nearby that you can visit for more nature photography opportunities. Walk along the path and you'll come across some amazing viewpoints.
