Leuchtenburg Castle & Seitenroda from Parkplatz Leuchtenburg

Park your car in the lot (50.802470, 11.613490) and then fly your drone so that it's facing east toward Seitenroda for an aerial view of the castle and village. The spring, summer and early fall months are best to photograph the Leuchtenburg Castle — the trees will be more colorful. Also, if you visit in April or May you can get a great composition with the road leading up to the castle with the sunrise right behind.

For similar conditions, visit during sunrise to get the best light and to have less tourists around the castle.

Follow local drone regulations and permit requirements. In Germany, you're required to have insurance and an address on your drone if it weighs more than 250g (approx. 0.5 lbs).

Incorporate the winding road as a guide to lead the eye up to the castle, which is your main focal point.

Fly around the castle to find your preferred angle. If you're shooting handheld, hike up one of the surrounding hills for different vantage points.

There are a few hills surrounding the castle and you can get great photos if you're willing to hike a little.

I suggest checking out the Herzogstuhl House, which is just a 15-minute drive away. This elevated house is a landmark in the area and will make for a one-of-a-kind photo.
