Tai Kwun JC Contemporary Spiral Staircase

The featured image is the spiral staircase in Tai Kwun Contemporary, near the corner of Old Bailey Street and Chancery Lane. Enter from the Pottinger Gate at Hollywood Road. Walk straight to Hall 10 and turn right and walk straight again into the Hall 20, which is the JC Contemporary Hall. The spiral staircase should be right in front of you. Since the spiral staircase is indoors you can photograph it any month.

Visit any time during opening hours, although more sunlight will hit the staircase during morning and afternoon. The weekdays will be less busy.

Get creative and experiment with photographing the staircase from above or below. It’ll give your images a different feeling.

If you’re photographing a model I don’t recommend they wear grey, otherwise, they’ll blend into the walls. Your model will contrast with the walls by wearing a more bright color.

There's lots of leading lines in this space. Take your time and find your perfect composition.
