I love revisiting old places in my hometown to discover its hidden beauty — like this road resembling a San Francisco street! It's also fun to watch the red cabs ascending the hilly road.

The featured image is a view of Eastern Street. I was standing on Eastern Street between Des Voeux Rd W and Queen’s Rd West and faced south up the hill. An easy way to arrive is via tram and getting off at the Eastern Street stop.
By MTR:
- Closest MTR station: Sai Ying Pun (Island Line)
- Take Exit "A1"
- Turn right on Queen's Road
- Turn left on Eastern Road

Best time
Morning, Late afternoon
You can photograph Eastern Street’s steep incline any month of year.
Visit in the morning (9am-10am) or late-afternoon (3pm-5pm) when you’re most likely to have a balance of shadows and pockets of sunlight across the road. You’ll also avoid heavy traffic congestion.
Field tips
A telephoto lens (200mm) will compress your image and magnify the size and slope of Eastern Street. It’ll also focus a lot of the scene into one frame.
Be patient and wait for a clear view and for the right moment to cross your frame (many trucks drive along this road obstructing a shot). I wanted to feature the red taxis.
People watch! You may also find an interesting subject to photograph.
